Dungeon running, the way it used to be. I never played Rogue myself, but I remember these types of games, they remind me of the games I had on my TI-85 in high school.
Back when my family got our first computer, an IBM PS1 in 1991, I had just about missed the wave of text based games. My dungeon running days started with Betrayal at Krondor, Myst and Kings Quest VI.
I’m not sure if there is a rom out there for Rogue or other games like it, but if there is let me know.

Söldner-X: Himmelsstürmer looks freekin’ crazy. I I think this will end up on my nesPC in some form. You can get it here.

I might have to get this game to try it out. It feels like a throw back to the old days of pencil and paper character sheets. I have about 9 1/2 years before my son can play it with me though.
With the winter months dragging on I wanted a project. It’s too cold to build a new work bench / printing table (my last one got destroyed in a garage fire this fall), and I’m procrastinating working to my other craft work for Craftstravaganza.
I stumpled upon this article on Instructables a while back. I built one similar at the BGCBA last year as an upright arcade which used an old Gateway PC to run GameEx. It didn’t have much power, but was enough for the kids to play NES and SNES games on it.
I’m going to gradually get parts for the system, but my list goes like this:
- NES system (just for the case)
- JetWay J7F2WE1G5D-OC-LF motherboard
- 1 gig DDR2 SDRAM
- Slimline CD-ROM
- 2.5” laptop hard drive
- 2 PC fans
- picoPSU-120 power kit
- 2 wireless Playstation 2 controllers
- Windows XP with GameEx as a frontend
I’m going to post pictures of my progress as I go, I should start getting some parts in the mail in the next few days.

Granted I’ve been playing Portal for 2 months now, I thought I’d post about it. Portal should be game of the year in ’07.
This game makes me want to make cake. Portal revives the faith in 3rd person shooters I have not had since the first Half-Life came out 10 years go.
If you haven’t gone out and bought Orange Box yet (that comes with Portal), go and get it, it’s worth it just for Portal and Team Fortrest 2.
